The Kushinagar international airport in Uttar Pradesh was inaugurated on 20 Oct 2020 by Prime minister Narendra Modi. This is the third international airport in UP, apart from Kushinagar already having an airport is operating in Lucknow and Varanasi.
The Central government has 900 new air routes is approved under the UDAN. By this scheme, approximately 350 have already become an operational condition.
The government’s master plan was also working and water-ports for seaplanes in the next four years and preparing more over than 200 airports, heliports.
The Kushinagar international airport will be provided for better connectivity to Buddhist locations in both UP and Bihar for both domestic and international tourism, PM said.
Because of its well thought out location are Lumbini the birthplace of Lord’s Buddha, Kapilvastu besides, where he gave his first sermon Sarnath, and where Buddha got enlightenment, Bodh Gaya.
PM described, how Kushinagar international airport and said it as a tribute to the devotion of Buddhists across the world, the region had been witness to the entire journey of Lord Buddha from enlightenment in Mahaparinirvana, and with the opening of the airport, it was getting connected directly to the world.
Build at Rs 260 crore, the airport will connect Kushinagar, where the Lord Buddha’s Mahaparinirvana, with other countries. There will also be flights from this terminal to other places in the country.
The Kushinagar Airport will give assign to the religious tourism in among the state, with Kushinagar being the Mahaparinirvan of Lord Buddha. Buddhist devotees from across the globe and specifically from East Asia are likely to boost up tourism in the state.
A huge inrush from countries like Vietnam, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Japan, China, Singapore among other countries is expected once the airport is completely operational.
A maiden Sri Lankan Airlines flight carrying scores of Buddhist monks and dignitaries from the island nation as it touched down at the airport was welcomed by the Prime Minister.
The goal is behind all these steps is to provide better connectivity to people living in the remotest corners was pointing out. PM said that many more middle-class people were able to benefit from these flight services today than in the past due to the steps taken by the government.
