Pen to Publish Contest, Amazon India’s annual flagship event for Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), has entered its fifth year. With this competition, Amazon encourages authors to submit original, never-before-published works in Tamil, Hindi, and English. A distinguished panel of judges, including Naga Chokkan for Tamil entries, Satya Vyas and Vijay Kakwani for Hindi entries, and Sudeep Nagarkar and Sudha Nair for English entries, will evaluate the submissions.

Interested aspiring writers can enter the competition by using the KDP service to self-publish an eBook with 5,000 words or more. From 10 July 2022 until 10 September 2022, participants can submit their entries, which will be evaluated based on various factors, including originality, inventiveness, writing quality, and consumer feedback.

The top 10 entries in each language will receive cash awards this year, unlike in past contests. The winning entry will earn a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, while the first and second-place finishers will each receive cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 30,000, respectively. The remaining seven top-10 competitors will get a payment of £10,000 apiece.

Amol Gurwara, Director of Kindle Content for India at Amazon, commented on the launch: “The fourth Pen to Publish edition exceeded our expectations and inspired us to continue with this yearly event. We are pleased to announce this fifth edition, of our commitment to empowering writers from all backgrounds through self-publishing and assisting them in becoming “authorpreneurs.” We hope to receive more submissions this year as well. Our goal is to inspire motivated writers to turn their passion for writing into a career by self-publishing their work.

“KDP has been giving authors the choice to publish across languages,” stated Sudeep Nagarkar, author and jury member for the fifth edition of the KDP Pen to Publish Contest. Writers are inspired to tell their untold stories to readers all around the world through the Pen to Publish Contest. I’m thrilled to participate in the competition and look forward to reading some intriguing writing from upcoming authors.

The fourth iteration of the Pen to Publish competition’s winner, Deepti Mittal, said, “When I entered the contest last year, it was my first-time self-publishing, and I was amazed to see how KDP made the process simple and allowed my book to reach a significant readership. Winning the competition encouraged me to pursue writing as a full-time career because it provided me with complete access to and control over my work on Amazon Kindle as well as an alluring royalty rate of up to 70%. Since then, I have used KDP to publish more than six novels.
