January 27, 2014: What do you do when you suddenly find that you have run out of your milk stock and it is very late in the night? To address this issue Amul launched India’s first milk ATM at Amul Dairy Gate in Anand, Gujarat. The milk ATM machine which is first of its kind has been put up with the intention of helping people who work and return back late in the night. The unique milk ATM launched by Amul offers milk pouches of 300 ml and it costs Rs.10 per pouch. Since the milk pouch costs only Rs.10, the company feels that even poor people who cannot afford 500 ml milk pouch will be buying from the milk ATM.

The 300 ml milk pouches are refrigerated at 4 degrees and a milk ATM can store up to 150 packets. The milk ATM has been designed in such a way that it accepts a Rs.10 note and after sensing the note dispenses the milk pouch. Amul Dairy’s ATM has met with success on the first day of its launch and from midnight till morning according to the company, 200 pouches have been dispensed.

Amul Dairy has plans to install more milk ATM’s in the future and according to Rahul Kumar Srivastava, MD, Amul Dairy “We plan to install another 5 machines at various strategic locations. It could be near busy places like railway station, bus station or near student hostels. Large hospitals may be good for such a service. We will explore hospitals as well.”
