Over the years, the car industry has undergone several breakthroughs. The industry is currently on the edge of the digital revolution and is transitioning from conventional driving to an environment of wired and autonomous driving. This is primarily happening with the Internet of Things innovations. It is now taking us one step closer to a self-operating world of computers, as IoT has already launched connected devices and resources through industries and even at home. This technology is intended to power future vehicles and transform the driving experience while enhancing the operational capabilities of companies with a fleet of vehicles.
Modern-day cars, ranging from protection measures to navigation systems, are now fitted with advanced features. The addition of access to the internet brings these cars to the next level. Using IoT-powered sensors can make it possible to remotely control a car.
Modern-day cars, ranging from protection measures to navigation systems, are now fitted with advanced features. The addition of access to the internet brings these cars to the next level. Using IoT-powered sensors can make it possible to remotely control a car. Do many sources even wonder who would be responsible if people are struck by an autonomous car? However, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) published the findings of its investigation into the Uber crash in Tempe, which highlighted several human mistakes, a year later after the fatality.
Despite this, many car manufacturers are steadily racing to introduce to the world the first fully autonomous car. Waymo, the self-driving subsidiary of Google’s sister company Alphabet, reportedly conducted successful autonomous taxi trials in California last year, transporting more than 6,200 individuals in the first month. On the other hand, Tesla is also making great strides in taking self-driving technology and autonomy into the automotive future. The automobile giant sent its complete self-driving program in October 2020 to a select group of owners who tested it on public roads, allowing cars to steer and accelerate faster without human hands and feet.
Ford is another autonomous driving maker, with cars being tested in Pittsburgh, Palo Alto, Miami, Washington D.C. With Detroit. Ford plans to test its fleet of self-driving cars in Austin with its partner Argo AI, planning to launch a wider-reaching automated taxi and delivery service in 2021.
Many brands are also looking for autonomous vehicles for their company, in addition to the production of such vehicles. Retail giant Walmart, for example, uses automated cargo vans to carry groceries in Arizona. The company announced in late December that it would extend its driverless delivery capabilities with the autonomous vehicle company Gatik in Arkansas. Conversely, by autonomous vehicles, Pizza Hut works with Toyota to deliver pizzas.
Although autonomous vehicles will play a crucial role in the automotive future, IoT-powered devices provide detailed information about each vehicle’s condition and performance, as well as the actions of the driver. This technology would also support fleet management by delivering real-time fleet location monitoring to the fleet manager, tracking road traffic conditions, calculating the fleet’s cargo weight/volume, and providing time and driver management. The IoT technology will allow cars to link to each other through an IoT network called CV2X (Cellular Vehicle to Everything) that connects vehicles and intelligent transport systems. Also, IoT will open new avenues in the automotive industry for carmakers and buyers worldwide.
