B2B marketplace open for kiranas: Flipkart

The Walmart-owned Flipkart has launched its operations in business-to-business (B2B) marketplace for the small sellers and kirana stores- The Flipkart wholesale. The launch comes after a month when Flipkart announced their new acquisition of Walmart India’s wholesale business that functions 28 Best price cash and carry wholesale stores which are offering nearly 5,000 products.

The Flipkart Wholesale have commenced their operations in Gurugram, Delhi and Bengaluru as of recent updates. Whereas Flipkart had stated that it will start with the pilot service for the grocery and fashion groupings, the marketplace has commenced with fashion as of now including the men’s apparel, women’s ethnic, western wear and kids’ wear. The twitter account of Flipkart Wholesale read that, a Bulk purchase is now made easier with Flipkart Wholesale and get the best prices on a wide range of quality products, order now.

The application is currently available only for Android users to buy products delivered at their shops. Qualified small sellers and kiranas can also get up to 15 days of credit to stock up shop with goods through Flipkart Wholesale’s Easy Credit benefit. Their easy-to-use credit strategy also helps people to track their outstanding balance and dues accurately. It enables to check the eligibility with zero paperwork and start stocking the shop in no time. Flipkart is yet to share official information for the launch.

The e-commerce giant would also permit the sellers to find an area-wise need from customers and best-selling items in the locality and stock their shops on that basis. Vendors, according to Flipkart Wholesale, can place the return requests for products to be picked from their shop within seven days from the date of delivery of the order.

Flipkart’s prevailing technology competences and supply chain infrastructure will benefit the new B2B marketplace. it would also influence Walmart’s wholesale arm, which is providing service for over 1.5 million kiranas and other MSMEs, to assist the sellers on its B2B marketplace. Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer, Flipkart Group had stated last month that the attainment of Walmart India enhances a strong talent pool with profound expertise in the wholesale business that will strengthen their position to talk about the needs of kiranas and MSMEs uniquely.

Apart from the Amazon, Flipkart now has to compete with Grofers, BigBasket and newly started JioMart in the hyper-competitive online grocery market in India. While it is a major player in the fashion market through the in-house Myntra marketplace, it hasn’t been able to achieve as much profit with its online grocery business Supermart.
