The burger chains operating in India may follow suit as Barcelos, the quick service restaurant has come up with black burgers. The national capital is the first place to get the black burgers launched by Barcelos. The dark colored snack generated a lot of positive and negative reviews in Japan last year.

The US based fast food giants McDonald’s and Burger King fought a huge battle over burgers and these black burgers featured black buns, black sauce, black cheese and black pepper beef buns. Burger King also launched the Black Kuro Burger that was darkened with bamboo charcoal. The firm’s rival McDonald’s went one step further and it came up with squid ink colored burger.

Unlike McDonald’s and Burger King, Barcelos has only on store in the country for now. The firm made use of red, blue and yellow food colors in the right proportions to make this own black burger variant. Regarding this, Rohit Malhotra, GM, Operations at Barcelos India claimed that someone had to introduce such a black burger and that they did it. He further stated that it looks too beautiful to look at and that during the introductory tasting session, those who tasted the black burger loved it. It was claimed that till date they have seen such stuff only on the internet.

The trend of introducing black burgers was introduced by the US chain Burger Kind in the year 2012 in Japan for a limited time period. The firm reintroduced the same again in 2013 before launching the Kuro that means Black in the Japanese language in the last year.

Regarding this, the Bangalore based brand expert, Harish Bijoor claimed that it is a trick played by the firms to break monotony. He added that there are different colored tomato ketchups in the United States such yellow and purple. Also, in Bangalore, there is a restaurant that sells golden dosa using a golden foil and olive oil.
