Talking about taking a step back in her journey with Infosys, Mrs. Murty said, “Thinking about managing my family and work I thought of taking a step back, at least that’s what the brain said, but the heart did not accept it. The heart said no; I have to work because I love technology. Also, the idea of working hard for your own company brought a different kind of joy to me. It’s not just about money; the joy of working with your colleagues and creating a product or service is something very special. I always enjoyed that in telecom, and I have to acknowledge that for everything, there is a price.”

In his latest interaction, Mr. Murthy while facing questions about the backlash surrounding his recommendation of a 70-hour work week, addressed the criticism and highlighted the hard work put in by the less privileged section in India, adding that people need to work hard in this country because poor farmers and factory workers work very hard, he said, “I rationalise it this way. When somebody has performed much better than me in their own field, I respect them and ask where they find me wrong in this. But I didn’t find it. A lot of my western friends, NRIs, and good people in India have called me and they are very happy about it. Those of us who received education at a very huge discount, thanks to subsidies from the government, owe it to the less fortunate citizens of India to work harder.”
