Ahana, a newly found big data company has emerged from its stealth mode on June 2nd after declaring it had raised $2.25 million from a seed funding round led by GV, Google’s investment arm. Less than a month after exiting stealth mode, big data start-up Ahana said it is making the Linux Foundation’s PrestoDB SQL query engine software available through the Amazon Web Services Marketplace and is providing a PrestoDB container through DockerHub. The company is developing a business providing commercial, technical, and use-case support services for PrestoDB software. Ahana is making available PrestoDB software on AWS marketplace and Presto Sandbox container on DockerHub.
Presto, a high-performance SQL software designed by Facebook for collecting data lingering on its social media that is a multi-petabyte data warehouse. PrestoDB Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is the first and only completely open-source and completely free Presto available on AWS marketplace. Also, Ahana provides commercial support to technical users and the management of their web-base.
However, there is a rivalry between Ahana and Starbust-Data, a Boston start-up, both offering free distribution and commercial edition with added management. Starbust-Data claimed to raise $42 million in series B financing.
