Birla Cellulose partners with GoNatura, a sanitary pad company based in Bengaluru, to develop affordable and environmentally friendly sanitary pads using the Purocel EcoDry fiber made of viscose as the top-sheet in their GoNatura sanitary pads.

The GoNatura team has been working tirelessly with Birla Cellulose to successfully integrate through multiple product trials to ensure smooth integration in their sanitary pads. Birla Cellulose team has been working tirelessly with GoNatura to overcome the environmental consequences endured due to the global consumption of plastic-based single-use sanitary pads and curb the ecological damage through plastic-free natural sanitary pads available at an affordable price.

According to research by the Indian government, 121 million women in the nation use sanitary napkins, and when multiplied by the average number of pads used (8 per cycle), it equals a startling 1 billion pads every month and 12 billion pads annually, each of which takes hundreds of years to degrade. In the nation and around the world, there is growing worry over how to dispose off these plastic napkins.

Here, Birla Cellulose’s Purocel Ecodry, a highly sustainable and environmentally friendly fiber, plays a crucial part. Given the urgent need to correct the consumption of commercial non-biodegradable menstrual napkins, Purocel Ecodry, a product made from wood pulp, has been created specifically to make biodegradable sanitary pads.

According to Rahul Bansal, AVP, Sales & Marketing – Non-woven at Birla Cellulose, “Our main goal in working with GoNatura is to make environmentally friendly hygiene products and maybe minimize non-biodegradable waste. This can be accomplished by creating a fully biodegradable sanitary napkin layer by layer so that we can demonstrate our innovative efforts in bridging the gap and answering the need-state of a brand that manufactures environmentally responsible hygiene products.

The founder and CEO of Bengaluru-based sanitary pad company GoNatura, Kavitha Prakash, stated, “We are trying to reduce the plastic waste from the earth by educating girls to switch to natural and sustainable GoNatura sanitary pads. Our goal is to transform the consumption of intimate hygiene products for women by emphasizing plastic-free natural sanitary pads and making them accessible to the women of the country.

“Our innovation with Purocel EcoDry is not only carefully created to offer the highest quality of environmentally friendly hygiene product but also fulfilling our purpose towards Atmanirbhar Bharath,” Prakash added. “With the help of Viscose Staple Fibre, which is a hydrophilic fiber in nature.
