August 12, 2014: The Badshah of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan is always known for his innovative marketing campaigns and always has a ace on his sleeve when it comes to a movie release. Fresh after the stupendous success of “Chennai Express” which is know one of the biggest bollywood grosser on box office of all times, Shahrukh Khan is ready with the release of his much anticipated movie ‘Happy New Year’ (HNY). This time also the movie makers and Shahrukh are ready with an innovative idea. Directed by Farah Khan and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the first trailer of ‘Happy New Year’ would be available to the fans on their palm through popular messaging application Whatsapp.
Red Chillies has joined hands with the popular mobile application WhatsApp to share ‘HNY’ exclusive details with fans. WhatsApp users can watch the film’s First Trailer by giving a missed call or drop in a WhatsApp message at +91 9819020202. The restriction by WhatsApp on a broadcast message has specially been removed for this campaign. With the launch of this unique campaign, ‘Happy New Year’ would become the first Bollywood film in the history to release its trailer in such a manner.
Speaking about using Whatsapp to launch the trailer, Venky Mysore, CEO of Red Chillies Entertainment was quoted as saying, “With over 50 million active users on WhatsApp in India who every day share millions of videos and images with individual friends & groups it was an obvious choice to use WhatsApp as a platform.” He further added,
“The only challenge was the restriction by WhatsApp where a broadcast message cannot be sent to more than 250 friends/WhatsApp users but WhatsApp has specially removed this restriction for this campaign.”
The mega film which is distributed by Yash Raj Films worldwide will release this Diwali in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages and starts Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah. The trailer will be launched on 14th August 2014 on Whatsapp.
