Bosch expands its presence in health care segment with Eye Care Solution

Aug 26, 2014: Auto part major Bosch took a notable step to expand its presence in the non-automotive portfolio. The firm announced the launch of an eye care solution that is locally developed inIndia. It reflects Bosch’s approach in solving the local problems that are prevailing in the country leveraging global R&D know how.

Bosch has been making auto components for Tata Motors, Mahindra Group and others. Besides this, the firm was involved in non-automotive businesses such as packaging, electric or energy power tools.

Prior to its announcement, this new eye care system that has been developed by Bosch in collaboration with several universities and startups has been tested by numerous eye care providers. Also, BoschIndiahas filed five patents in the field and is also prepping to develop this technology further in the coming years.

This new eye screening and detection system combines effective hardware and software in order to provide an affordable eye care solution. The system involves a handheld Fundus (retinal camera) that is designed in order to address the shortage of eye care specialists and the soaring demand for vision screening. According to the global health statistics, almost one in three visually impaired people in the world is an Indian.

Well, the eye screening and detection system from Bosch is made available to many customers including ophthalmologists, optical chains, government primary health care centers, non-governmental institutions meant for vision care and more.

The highlights of the system is that it has a modular architecture that enables it capture the front and back of the eye and a light weight build for convenient portability. Also, it uses a cloud and smartphone compatible software that will cater to the demands of the specialists and technicians.

Bosch’s eye screening and detection system will meet the demands of the middle and lower income demographic as it is highly functional, cost effective and easy to use. It has been predicted by experts that almost 80% of the vision loss cases inIndiacan be prevented and this appears to be the ultimate aim of the eye care solution developed by theGermanybased firm.
