‘Bottles for Change’ conducted a campaign to reduce plastic waste disposal. It promises to reach out to 20 slums to make them aware of the effective use of plastic recycling and source segregation.

The three main steps highlighted in the campaign are – clean plastic after use, keep it dry, sort it out separately and dispatch it for recycling.

‘Bottles for Change’ is an initiative that works to educate and change the behavior of citizens on an efficient method of waste disposal and recycling of plastic.

They strongly believe in plastic recycling because they know the future of plastic. Plastic is not a waste. It is an opportunity.

The young generation is the seed to a productive future. It is an important task to broaden the thoughts of youth about the issues of climate change, pollution, and sustainability.

In the campaign conducted in slum areas of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane, the public presence was great. Almost 300 families attended the program, thus reaching more than 150 children.

There are a lot of reports that study the consequences of the overuse of plastics, both internationally and nationally.

A 2019 report of the Central Pollution Control Board says that India produces about 660,787.85 tonnes of plastic waste. Hopefully, 60% of the plastic wastes produced are recycled.

Today the world is flooded with solid wastes of every kind. It could be electronic wastes, plastic wastes, food wastes, etc.

Waste management is one of the environmental challenges confronted by urban slums. The reality is that almost 43% of packaging materials are developed from single-use plastic.

‘Bottles for Change’ by Bisleri takes a wise step to tackle this problem of plastic waste through an awareness program. Plastic waste management can be taken care of by local self-help groups.

Another best achievement of the campaign is that it collected plastic containers, packing materials, and wrappers made of plastics. It accumulated 200 kilos of both hard and soft plastics.

Anjana Ghosh, Director – corporate social responsibility of ‘Bottles for Change’ commented with delight that the initiative was impactful as it tried methods that could create positive changes in the environment.

The campaign covered topics of plastic usage and disposal in several modern ways. A responsible way to reduce plastic waste is the Sustainable use of plastic.
