“Bulli Bai”: App for Women trade

As the new year begins, we perceived news regarding women, “Education is the key to success”; as we all know nowadays women or girls both are given equal importance in the form of pursuing their education, living a life without any barrier.

But this happens only with 75% of our population among females. Women are considered eligible to men in order of priority, freedom, work, etc.  

On January 1, 2022, the Bulli Bai case was registered, as the website or the portal contained several pictures of Muslim women including journalists were posted on the platform. Thereafter a woman who works with online news on a social media portal filed a complaint to Mumbai police regarding her auction on a website. She verified and went through the portal “Bulli Bai” the number of women were auctioned through their pictures and detaining the privacy of females.

The entire website was designed with the post of women embarrassing and insulting Muslim women. The Bulli Bai app works just the way same as “Sulli deals”. Once opened a Muslim women’s face was randomly displayed as “Bulli Bai”. The word expressed for women was Bulli which is a derogatory word used for Muslim women in local slang.

A 21-year-old engineering student was held in Bengaluru by police, being taken to Mumbai for further custody regarding the “Bulli Bai” app case. The student was brought to Mumbai-by-Mumbai police, but the police didn’t divulge any information regarding the controversy.

The platform which was hosting the controversy was performed through “GitHub”, where the list and post of hundreds of Muslim women’s pictures were posted for “auction”.

Recently, A 18-year-old girl, in Uttarakhand’s Rudrapur town Udhamsingh Nagar district has been arrested by Mumbai police. The girl had a connection with the “Bulli Bai” app where images of 100 Muslim women were auctioned.

Mumbai cyber cell has filed a complaint against the girl for derogating women’s pictures online without their permission. The girl has been arrested by Mumbai police and will be in custody till further details are known.

The IT industry minister said; the government of India is working on the controversy and “GitHub” confirmed blocking the website and the user this morning itself.
