Caller Ring Back Tones brings revenue for mobile companies

March 23, 2013: Where do you hear the top chart buster’s music apart from your music hearing devices definitely it would be on some body’s mobile phone as a caller ring back tone. From the latest Gangnam Style to Kolaveri Di you can hear the latest music topping the charts and you can even listen to cheeky one liner. Caller ring back tones are becoming a rage among the people in India and mobile companies are raking in the moolah.

Department of Telecom has come out with a report which says that mobile operators in India has earned nearly more than Rs.8,000 crore from caller ring back tone service in the past three years. It has gone on to become the biggest revenue earning model among the value added services offered by different mobile operators and Idea Cellular leads the pack with a revenue of Rs.2,877 crore in last three years. Interestingly Idea was the first to start this service in 2004. The other companies which are doing really well in the caller ring back tone service are:

Bharti Airtel with Rs.2,088 crore

Vodafone with Rs.1,521 crore

BSNL with Rs.689 crore

Tata Teleservices with Rs.407 crore &

Aircel with Rs.230 crore

Mobile subscribers are increasingly embracing ring back tone services as it reflects their mood, personality and thought. For music as ring back tones, the monthly fee which is charged by a mobile operator is shared between the telecom operators and the music company. With the increase in subscribers for the ring tones it is good news for the music industry and music record companies and as well as artists as they are also making money.
