Canadian Wood collaborated with Ekbote Timber Home to build a T&G style sustainable house with B.C. Wood species.

National, 29th August 2022: Forestry Innovation Consulting India Pvt Ltd, the crown agency of the Provincial Government of British Columbia (B.C.), popularly known as Canadian wood, has collaborated with, Ekbote Timber Home a leading solid wood furniture manufacturer and timber home maker, and participated in the well-known Index Fair Interior Design Exhibition, 2022. The exhibition, which has been held annually in Mumbai since 1989, is India’s largest international trade fair and offers a platform for connecting Indian companies with those across the globe. The three-day-long exhibition started on 26th August 2022 at Jio World Convention, Mumbai. Ekbote timber homes showcased a Laminated Tongue and Groove-style (T&G) house made out of B.C. wood species from sustainably managed forest of Canada.

This demo house was built to promote building with wood and highlight the T&G technique of construction. A major advantage of the T&G building technique is that it’s a pre-fabrication method in which every component can be made and pre-finished prior to leaving the factory with only the final coat to be done after construction. Such pre-fabricated structure can be put together by the manufacturer on-site in merely few hours (depending on size of the house).

A sustainable home is one that has as little influence as is possible on the environment. This entails minimizing environmental contaminants, conserving energy, and responsibly using materials and resources while having a beneficial psychological and physical impact on its residents.

As a manufacturer and builder, Ekbote timber homes focuses on providing its clients with long-lasting sustainable wooden homes. As a builder that made the conscious decision to utilise environment friendly wood species, Canadian Wood supports Ekbote timber homes. This is in line with the company’s objective of promoting the use of sustainable and certified wood. Moreover, based on their prior experience collaborating on extremely successful initiatives, both parties came together to showcase this project at the exhibition.

Three distinct wood species from B.C Canada were used to construct the complete house. These species were chosen based on their unique qualities of great strength and dimensional stability. The bed frame, nightstands, fence for the patio and the structure of the house were all made of Spruce pine fir (S-P-F). Hanger stands, decks, windows, entrance doors, and an outdoor bench were made out of Western red cedar. Furthermore, the entire house’s flooring was made using Douglas-fir.

Speaking on this collaboration, Canadian Wood said “It was an absolute pleasure to collaborate with Ekbote timber homes to showcase this house at the exhibition that turned out to be a huge success. Canadian Wood as a company has always believed in sustainable and legally harvesting of wood. It is good to see that the customers in India are becoming more environmentally sensitive, which is driving experts in the wood sector to progressively transition to using certified wood that has been legally procured for their projects and Manufacturing”

When asked about the collaboration Ekbote timber homes said “I am extremely satisfied with how the finished demo house has come out. Using Canadian wood for this house was the right choice. Canadian Wood has always believed in leading by example, doing so by collaborating with other local companies as well as their stockists to promote B.C. as a long-term supplier of certified wood from sustainably managed forest.
