The all-new Tata Punch

The Tata Punch launched last week in India. That will be a fresh player in the already competitive sub-compact SUV platform. It starts from Rs 5.49 lakhs, and Tata Motors plans to widen its customer base across metro cities and smaller towns.

However, what makes it stand out from the other contenders? Safety.

The Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger both offer some stiff competition to Tata Punch as Magnite and Kiger are affordable SUVs in the market.

Tata Punch is offered in four variants, namely Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative will lock horns with Magnite’s five variants XE, XL, XV, XV Premium, and XV Premium DT, as well as with Kiger’s four variants RXE, RXL, RXT, and RXZ.

This fresh SUV holds the topmost position on the list of safest cars in India, with the highest ever score of 16.453. It also has five stars for adult occupant protection rating, and it was rated by the Global NCAP car safety agency. In addition, it scored four stars with 40.891 points for child occupant protection.

With all those remarkable ratings, what makes it special? The sub-compact competitor comes prepared with the company’s new Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) architecture, which provides the vehicle to absorb powerful impacts during crashes.

The Punch leverages high-strength steel, hot stamp BIW structural panels, modern restraint safety features, and a crash locking tongue for front occupants. However, the cabin of the vehicle uses soft materials in occupant interaction areas.

The Tata Punch rolls with a plethora of functions like dual airbags, corner stability control, child seat ISOFIX anchor points, ABS with EBD, front fog lamp with cornering function, reverse parking camera, perimetric alarm system, tire puncture repair kit, and driver and co-driver seatbelt reminders among others.

To assure that Punch offers the best standards of safety parameters, Tata Motors conducted an extensive early-stage study, efficient load path definition, top-notch virtual simulations, material characterization, coupled with a variety of different sled and crash tests amid the SUV’s development process.

Thanks to its compact nature, Punch can be a great option to drive on congested city roads. Starting at Rs 5.49 lakhs, it is also a good option for those budget buyers searching for a vehicle that contains the proportions of an SUV.

Punch is the third drive from Tata Motors to receive a five-star adult occupant safety rating by Global NCAP. That is after Nexon in December 2018 and Tata Altroz in January 2020. Tata’s Tiago and Tigor also remain among the top 10 safest cars in the Indian market.
