It said the Odisha-based plant authorities were working to meet the demand for customized steel products for the country’s top infrastructure projects.

The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) at Rourkela in Odisha is the first public sector integrated steel plant in India. It was established in the 1960s in collaboration with West Germany with an installed capacity of 1 million tons. It is operated by the Steel Authority of India.

There are several early stages in RSP’s credit. It is the first plant in Asia to adopt the energy-efficient LD process in steel production, and SAIL’s first integrated steel plant to adopt a low-cost, high-quality continuous casting route for processing 100% of the steel produced. For the first time in India, an external desulphurization plant for hot metal was adopted by the calcium carbide injection process.

RSP is one of the unique units with different types of special-purpose steels under the sail umbrella. After the formation of the RSP with the help of German cooperation. Subsequently, it increased its steel production capacity to 2 million tonnes and added several units to the facility

The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of SAIL, has so far supplied about 2.9 lakh tonnes of Special Grade Steel to the Mega Lift Irrigation Project at Kaleswaram, Telangana. The plates were rolled at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP’s) New Plate Mill.

These items are part of SAIL’s efforts to strengthen the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The RSP (Rourkela Steel Plant) said in an official statement that it is making every effort to meet the requirements of customized steel products for high infrastructure projects being undertaken across the country.

The Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation project, which claims to be the most expensive irrigation project ever undertaken in any state in India, aims to irrigate about 37 lakh acres in 15 districts of Telangana. In addition, the project will provide drinking water to several small and medium towns and cities in the state, especially in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

RSP’s 4300 mm wide new plate mill is equipped with the latest technology to manufacture a wide range of plates with close tolerances in compliance with strict international standards.

The mill regularly adds to its basket of products with rigorous features and a wide range of items to enter the high-quality segments and find a place for itself in the national steel structure.
