Sept 27, 2012: Daimler, the world’s largest truck maker entered the overcrowded truck market space in India with its new highly localized “Bharat Benz” trucks. Daimler aims to take over the leadership position from the top two leaders, Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland in the truck market.
Bharat Benz is priced at 3-9% premium over existing price of trucks. The company claims that by paying a premium, the truck operator will avail benefits like 10-15% fuel efficiency and faster turnaround time. Daimler has launched heavy trucks under the new model namely-25 tonne construction tipper, 25 tonne rigid truck and 35 tonne rigid truck.
