The Datsun rediGO hatchback model has been long awaited by the Indian customers. Now, there is information that the vehicle will be launched in the country sometime in May 2016, but this remains unconfirmed by the manufacturer.
The Datsun rediGO was unveiled initially at the Auto Expo 2014, but as a concept. The hatchback’s production ready variant will be the most affordable offering in the lineup of Datsun India.
The hatchback from Datsun will be based on the CMF-A platform that is the same one used for the Renault Kwid. If you are not aware of this platform, it was developed jointly by Nissan and Renault. Apart from this platform, the Datsun rediGO will also feature a similar three-cylinder 0.8 litre petrol engine as the Kwid. While both the rediGO and Kwid share the same platform and engines, the former has a new design that is based on an original concept.
The rediGO is claimed to have a high ground clearance, chunky wheel arches, raised shoulder line and plastic cladding around its body. The vehicle is claimed to feature a crossover like look despite being a hatchback model. The low cost hatchback model from Nissan, Datsun is prepping a sub-compact SUV called Datsun GO-Cross. This made its debut in the country lately at the Auto Expo 2016 event in the beginning of this month.
It is likely that the Datsun GO-Cross will be developed on the current GO hatchback platform. The vehicle is believed to be launched in the country early in the next year.
In the meantime, the Datsun rediGO has been spotted while it was apparently under testing in Chennai. This also hints that the vehicle’s sale in the country is not too far away. The test mule that was camouflaged seems to be highly similar to the concept model that was showcased earlier.
