On 30 July 2017, the digital resource and capacity scenario of (NER) The North Eastern Region of India, spread across the 8 States namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura,  received a great push with the announcement at Guwahati (Assam) by Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Hon’ble Minister of Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice, regarding the vision for ‘Digital North East 2022’.

The vision document aims to supply a roadmap for transforming the ‘Digital North East 2022’, vision into a firm plan of action for every state within the North East. Which has been formulated by the Ministry of Electronics and IT in consultation with the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region, the Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India, the Departments of Information Technology of the North East States, State Informatics Officers, and State e-Mission Teams, Non-Government Organizations and North East experts.

To fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modis, dream of ‘Digital North Eastern India Vision 2022, a knowledge centre for North Eastern States will soon come up in Assam, and a National Data Centre (NDC) would be established by the National Informatics Centre at Amingaon near Guwahati at a cost of Rs 350 crore.

For the eight North Eastern states: Arunachal, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, the cutting-edge Information Communication Technology (ICT) Cloud platform and data repository would be a great digital boon. The state-of-art NDC-NER will also come with an integral network hub center and integrated security operations center. Besides setting up as the hub for all digital initiatives of the North Eastern states, it will also provide the required impetus for increase in use of e-governance services, geo-spatial applications and development related activities. And with the growing preference for cloud-based online applications by providing the region with its own cloud platform to further and quickly track its developmental initiatives, this would go a long way in making the North Eastern states an integral part of the Digital India growth story. The NDC-NER, would set up within a period of 31 months and will be equipped with all requisite paraphernalia such as ICT hardware and software, uninterrupted power supply, solar power, cooling systems, physical and cyber security, and backup systems.
