New Delhi, 06 Nov, 2023: Dr. Shuchin Bajaj, Founder Director of Ujala Cygnus Group of Hospitals, has been awarded the prestigious Capital Foundation Award in recognition of his outstanding and distinctive contribution to affordable healthcare. The annual award was presented by Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, at a grand ceremony in the presence of eminent personalities. The CJI was also felicitated with Justice VR Krishna Iyer award, on the occasion.
The award ceremony took place at the Constitution Club, Rafi Marg, New Delhi, on the occasion of the 109th birth anniversary celebration of Justice VR Krishna Iyer. The award was presented in the distinguished presence of Mr. Justice AK Patnaik, Chairman, Capital Foundation, on Saturday.
On the occasion, CJI Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud spoke on the topic- ‘Revisiting Penal Philosophy: Reformative Justice in India’. Among others honored were Justice Akil Kureshi (Justice MC Chagla Award), Ms. Anu Aga (Soli J Sorabjee Award), Dr. C.B.K. Mohanty (Justice AK Patnaik Award), Mr. Rafique Dada (Anil Diwan Award), and Dr. Silpi Sahoo (Prativa Patnaik Women Achiever Award).
Expressing his views, Dr. Shuchi Bajaj said, “Affordable healthcare is still in its nascent stage when it comes to delivering quality healthcare in tier 2 and 3 cities in India. We, at Ujala Cygnus, aim to deliver tertiary healthcare to smaller towns and cities across India and the Covid-19 pandemic has been a testing ground for all of us. I am honored to be considered for this prestigious award and this will give new energy to Ujala Cygnus’s efforts to provide quality and affordable healthcare to the underprivileged.”
Pertinent to mention here that Ujala Cygnus Healthcare provides super-specialty tertiary health care at low cost to underserved communities. Dr. Shuchin has also been awarded the 14th Social Entrepreneur of the Year (SEOY) Award-India, established by Jubilant Bhartia Foundation and Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, in August this year.
