Flipkart and Amazon have increased the number of vendors on their websites and increased the variety in the category of furniture as they are expecting a boom in sales during the coming festive season to thrive.

Flipkart owned by Walmart said it has more than doubled the number of sellers on the furniture segment market to over 10,000 sellers across the country from the year and expanded its range to over 3.5 lakh items to meet the evolving demand of customers.

These vendors, including manufacturers of small and micro furniture, were incorporated from various furniture clusters around Jabalpur, Churu, MP’s Indore, Ratangad, Rajasthan’s Sardharsheher, and Bihar’s Saharanpur, Flipkart said in a statement.

Flipkart said the pandemic of COVID-19 has caused new market trends across categories of products, including furniture, as individuals spend more time at home. With buyers now spending more on building their comfortable rooms at home, the market for ergonomic furniture across furniture categories is growing dramatically.

Flipkart aims to give customers a one-stop furniture shopping destination, it added. With brands such as Wipro and Featherlite, Flipkart has also increased its homework (WFH) furniture vendor count by over 30 percent.   To give customers convenient access to online furniture, the company has improved its furniture market with an increased emphasis on supply, price, convenience, and efficiency.

Over the past year, Amazon.in has helped thousands of small sellers in the furniture segment to get online and enter a national consumer base, Amazon India Director Suchit Subhas said. He added that these include furniture vendors from many Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh artisanal hubs that are renowned around the world for their innovative furniture designs.

They have introduced a ‘Quality Checked’ initiative to inform and help sellers increase the quality of their goods by establishing uniform standards for merchandise, packaging, and catalog enhancement based on industry best practices that will help sellers provide consumers with a better shopping experience.

During the festive season, e-commerce firms see a big proportion of their market flowing in and they make substantial investments in advance to speed up their ability to accommodate the surge in orders.  The segments that see tremendous demand during the festive season are electronics, accessories, and home furnishings.
