Bangalore, September 14, 2022: Equitas Small Finance Bank Limited has successfully facilitated and administered over five million vaccinations in collaboration with the state governments of the country. The vaccination drive was conducted along with the CSR team along with the state governments across India. The bank has organised more than 48,000 vaccination camps from 2021 till June 2022.
The bank staff assisted the officials in implementing the vaccination drive and spreading awareness, persuading, assembling, and educating the community on the importance of vaccines, focusing on slums, rural and remote areas. The team worked on mobilizing the women in the families to lead their immunization campaigns.
As of 15 May 2022, 63 per cent of the population in India has received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 2 per cent of the population has received a third booster dose. While there’s a long path ahead, Equitas and Opportunity International continue to run vaccination camps to close the gap of vaccine access.
Commenting on the success of the drive Mr. PN Vasudevan, MD and CEO, Equitas Small Finance Bank said, “At Equitas, we are committed to ensuring the welfare of our employees, customers and the community. With active involvement of our employees, support from our partners like Opportunity International, and medical fraternity, we have tried to overcome the barriers against vaccination, and got individuals living in remotest areas inoculated, with the collective effort of community. We are happy to have collaborated with the state governments and the health care workers in the battle against the pandemic.”
The teams then followed up with families to confirm if they had taken their subsequent doses. This data, along with areas that had a lower frequency of vaccinated individuals, helped them identify locations for the vaccination drives and successfully carry them out in partnership with the medical authorities.
“Opportunity International is proud to have supported Equitas Small Finance Bank in this innovative public-private partnership and we celebrate the remarkable milestone of five million doses of lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines being delivered to communities in India,” said Scott Walters, CEO Opportunity International Australia.
