Facebook, the social networking giant has partnered with the telecom service provider Bharti Airtel, and smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and Micromax Informatics. This move is to provide them with the advantage of customized targeted ads and to help in increasing their revenue growth.
Jane Schachtel, the Global Head of Technology and Mobile Strategy, Facebook stated that they are currently aiding both the categories to identify their potential target audience. Also, the companies will be able to engage the audience via targeted advertising on the social media platform.
Slideshow is one such tool, added Schachtel. In the emerging markets like India, customers have devices that can work both on 2G and 3G networks. The video ads can be frustrating as the speeds can be disparate and slow. Eventually, slideshow being a lightweight video ad featuring a series of stills can be easy for the advertisers to use and it can be engaging for the audience.
Slideshow lets the companies showcase the different aspects of their offerings based on the bandwidth that is used. She added that they hope to launch the same with some operators and OEMs here.
The operators will face the challenge while differentiating their networks and increasing their average revenue per individual. Facebook is capable of matching the data on the customer usage and behavior with that of the telcos. Previously, Facebook has worked with telecom service providers such as Vodafone and Airtel.
Facebook has recently worked with the Korean smartphone maker Samsung in order to identify and target audience who are likely to buy the S6 or S6 edge phones. That could mean those who spend time on 4G and those who use older Samsung phones.
Facebook targeted those audience and added newsfeeds related to purchasing the S6. The firm could reach 41 million people with the targeted S6 and S6 edge program, she added. Further, she claimed that there lie endless opportunities in this platform.
