What’s bigger- Population of India? Or Facebook users? For now, it would be the population of India, but there is no denying the fact that the user list for Facebook, which has crossed about 1 Billion would surpass the landmark number of India’s population! The recent flop show at the IPO doesn’t seem to keep users away from Facebook, guess the IPO is an investor’s thing and not the users!

Anyways, regardless of the fact that the social networking site is facing start criticism from various nations, the users just keep on adding up. And it’s not just users, brands too are registering themselves on FB – as the users love calling it.

On September 14th 2012, the record milestone of 1 Billion users was reached. Apart from this, there various interesting insights one can draw from Facebook’s journey over the years:

  • FB took a little above two years to double the 500 Mn user list to make to 1 Bn. This was after FB took 6 years to reach from 1 Mn to 500 Mn users. Interestingly, Mark Zuckerburg regarded this as a pretty humble experience.
  • Ever liked a particular post or a photo? Sure you would’ve ! Amazingly, in the last 3.5 years the number of such likes has crossed 1 Tn ( 1.13 to be more closer to the exact count) . Talk about engaging people in your posts!
  • Out of these 1 Bn users, one thing is pretty evident, almost all of them would love to rope in their friends and make new ones. Totally, there are about 140 Bn friend connections!
  • Consider this a very normal situation – you click a photo of your group or some nice landscape or when you are all decked up or your kid’s adorable pose, the first thing you do after clicking it would be to upload it; and in lot of cases to Facebook! On the whole about 219 Bn photos were uploaded.
  • Again, for entertainments sake, songs, about 63 Mn of them were played about 22 Bn times in total!
  • Talking about brands and business houses,  about 94% of the top advertisers globally are on Facebook!
  • Which country do you think contributes to the maximum users – its Brazil followed by India, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States.

Well, these were some pretty amazing stats the first time I learnt about it! Found them interesting? Let us know!
