entrepreneurs in nurturing traditional crafts and driving grassroots economic growth, Flipkart,
India’s homegrown e-commerce marketplace, has committed to their empowerment and
upliftment. Launched in 2019, the Flipkart Samarth program now in its 5th year stands as a
beacon of hope and progress for over a million artisans, weavers, and craftsmen across the

At the young age of 20 years old, Rishabh Kumar, hailing from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh,
embodies the entrepreneurial legacy passed down by his father. His father founded Vishal
Handicrafts in 2016, earning accolades from the state for his business acumen. Amidst the
challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Rishabh seized the opportunity to digitize the
family’s traditional wholesale business, venturing into online retail through Flipkart in 2021. This transition marked a significant milestone for Vishal Handicrafts, expanding their market reach
and product range to include glass items like table lamps, hanging lights, wall lights, and candle
holders.
Leading a team of 50 individuals, Rishabh manages the seamless fusion of traditional
craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities, evident in the popularity of their best-selling
products such as intricately manufactured candle holders, elegant table lamps, and enchanting
ceiling lights. Since joining Flipkart, Vishal Handicrafts has experienced exponential growth, with
an average of approximately 100 orders per day, particularly during festive seasons like Diwali.

Ritu Devi, Kaushalya Devi, and Ramkali, Himachal Pradesh
Ritu Devi, Kaushalya Devi, and Ramkali, three women artisans, have woven a narrative of
empowerment and resilience in Himachal Pradesh. Supported by the National Urban
Livelihoods Mission (NULM) and Flipkart Samarth, they transformed their traditional skills in
woolen crafts into a sustainable business model, achieving financial independence. Initially
confined to small local markets in Kullu, their collaboration with NULM and Flipkart Samarth
opened up nationwide market access, significantly improving their livelihoods. Specializing in
handcrafted woolen wear such as shawls, caps, mufflers, ethnic winter wear, and the famous
Himachali topi, their products now reach customers across India. This shift from local shops to
an expansive e-commerce platform has not only expanded their business but also their
community standing.
Their success has inspired more women in their community to join self-help groups and pursue
similar paths toward financial independence. Ritu, Kaushalya, and Ramkali have become
beacons of strength and motivation, exemplifying how traditional artisans can thrive by
integrating their traditional crafts with online marketplaces like Flipkart. It showcases how
Flipkart Samarth empowers and uplifts artisans across India, fostering a more inclusive and
prosperous economic landscape. Their journey highlights the pivotal role of e-commerce
platforms in enhancing the socio-economic status of rural artisans, promoting a richer cultural
heritage and community development.
This World Artisan Day, we unfold the stories of resilience, creativity, and success of our artisan
sellers. Through the Flipkart Samarth program, we are committed to fostering an inclusive,
equitable, and prosperous ecosystem, highlighting the remarkable contributions of India’s
