June 26, 2013: Taking the competition to a new turf, Ford India launched its most anticipated SUV Ecosport at an aggressive price of Rs.5.59 lakh (Ex Showroom New Delhi) onwards. EcoSport which would be available in both petrol and diesel variants will be taking on Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga, Mahindra & Mahindra’s Quanto and Renault Duster. In what is termed as a game changer category for companies like Renalt and Maruti Suzuki globally small utility vehicles have witnessed a growth of 154 percent between 2005 and 2012 according to IHS Automotive. This category is said to
witness a growth of 51 per cent world over in the coming years.
Ford which has already manufactured 5,000 units of EcoSport will start the deliveries from today. The diesel variant of this compact SUV from Ford is priced at Rs.6.69 lakhs. Speaking on the occassion of the launch Joginder Singh, MD, Ford India, said, “We expect the EcoSport to be a game changer for Ford India. It will set a new benchmark in the Indian automotive space. Based on the One Ford global platform, the product is tuned to the needs of Indian consumers.”
Ford EcoSport which is powered by 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine generates a maximum of 125PS of power. The 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine churns out 112PS and 91PS of power respectively. The compact SUV which will be available in three engine, four trims and eight colour options will not only be sold in India but will also be exported to 40 countries including Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, Taiwan and Australia.
Compact SUV Ford EcoSport will be available with automatic gearbox as well but will be available only in the petrol variant. The vehicle boasts of a host of features like Sync, the Ford voice enabled in car connectivity system, electric ORVMs, dual tone interiors apart from the regular features like power steering, remote central locking etc.
