Gender Equality in Technology: The way forward

The growing voices pushing for gender equality in the industry, but gender diversity in technology remains an intractable problem. As per the report, in major tech companies, only 30% of women are working, when women make up 59% of the total workforce in various other companies. The women entrepreneurs are also facing significant barriers when it comes to economic access and they are behind the race for economic opportunity. STEM discipline is another factor making females away from technology and Declination over the past few years of women’s participation. To ensure the growth and prosperity of women in technology by empowering and build strategies. Recruiting more women in their IT team can be an obvious solution for companies to achieve gender equality.  

The government should ensure entry and full participation of women in the tech workforce to achieve gender equality in the tech world. IN August 2019, a series of recommendations asking governments to commence on initiatives that support women and girls to overcome barriers to participate in the workforce by the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council. The Council initiates to invite G7 leaders to ensure the gender equality and empowerment of women.

By enforcing the law, some of the countries already ensure the way into gender equality. In California, they foist the companies to ensure the board consists of at least a woman. Likewise in the UK, If the company consisting more than 250 employees, then the salary of the men and female should be declared publicly. The companies have to balance the strength and salary equally to their male and female employees and ensure, there is no discrimination happening by gender. Now, the continues making headlines is about the lack of women in IT jobs. The unconscious biases are one of the reasons. As per the study, more the 2 million women are resigned from their job due to repeated instances of unfairness or unconscious bias. So the managers should identify, address the issues and rectify the issues to empower gender equality and ultimately improving retention rates for female tech employees. The company having a major role to rectify these kinds of discrimination and the governing agency should do ensure the “right to work” without any discrimination.
