Google Blackout: Public Cloud

Based on the recent blackouts that have occurred this was the third one that took place in a recent period of 2 months where it was an overall blackout.

Google was the victim of full blackout and many of the key services such as YouTube, Google Docs, Gmail went offline.

As per the latest data from Down Detector around 16,000 cases had been reported from clients that faced issues while trying to gain access to Gmail. Apart from that around 5,000 cases were also reported while facing access issues with Google Docs and Google Drive.

As per the recent statement by Mr Bob Venero who happens to be CEO of Holbrook working with Future Tech, he stated that companies that had solely relied on public clouds for their functioning are on the verge of danger by risking their organization in various parameters such as loss of income, security breach and vulnerability and also high chances of sudden misfortunes in terms of existing efficiency. He also stated that public clouds are not powerful.

There was also recent uncovering done by the organization when they decided to identify the reason as to why the issue occurred. They presently labelled the issue as “Google’s Cloud Infrastructure Components episode 20013’ which was owning to a decreased capacity with Google’s central identities -management system, which ended up causing obstruction to any assistance that required clients to sign in.

The major underlying drives created an issue in Google’s automated storage quota management system that ended up worsening the capacity of the authentication system.

Two of the major primary administrations that ended being impacted were Google Cloud Platforms which signifies that Cloud Console, Cloud Storage, Big Query and also Google Kubernetes Engine too got impacted.  All the users would most likely have had an encounter with authentication error during the 50 – minute outrage that took place.

This was the third overall blackout that took place at a public cloud provider in the past 2 months. The wide effect ranged from doubting the ability of tech support and has also seriously harmed the brands’ reputable image.

It is yet to ascertain but one thing is for sure these recent occurrences will force many organizations to switch towards private cloud services provided better security and backup.
