GroupM and Google Partner for Grand Diwali Online Shopping Mela

Sept 26, 2014:  Google is in discussion with GroupM to put up large online store during this festival time of Diwali. GroupM will bring in brands that will sell their offerings on the website, whereas Google will assist them with the necessary technology. This shopping festival will go on for three weeks starting from October 1.

The festival website will have all types of products including automobiles, real estate, FMCG products, electronics, consumer durables, entertainment and music. The officials who revealed these details also claimed that the numerous FMCG brands will also be launching some of their new food and beverage products via the website.

The website’s real estate segment will be providing details regarding new properties such as layout plans and site visits. Those interested in cars and bikes can gather information about different brands and models and plan for test drives using the website.

For now, both GroupM and Google are in the process of roping in brands to take part in the event. It is claimed that via this initiative, GroupM is trying to help the brands to move on to the virtual world. GroupM already created an ad campaign to endorse the Grand Diwali Mela through different media platforms such as radio, internet, TV, print and social media.

The Chief Executive Officer of GroupM SouthAsia, CVL Srinivas claimed that the Grand Diwali Mela is aimed at taking the offline festive shopping experience online. The website will let users to do window shopping, browse through merchandise and try out certain products like how they do with the local mela. Also, Rajan Anandan, Country Head at GoogleIndiaclaimed that people can join the festival even from their mobile phones. This will be a first of its kind scheme to kick off the festive season in the country.
