Trivandrum, October 28, 2024: The HCL South Zone Bridge Open Championship concluded in Trivandrum, showcasing top-level bridge talent from across India and beyond. Supported by HCL, which annually organizes one of the largest international bridge championships, this event hosted over 200 national and international players, making it Kerala’s largest bridge tournament by participation. Organized by the Kairali Bridge Association, the championship featured around 32 teams from across India, including Bengal, Maharashtra, apart from all the Southern States. As well as international players from Sri Lanka, Singapore and Germany competed for a prize pool of Rs 4 lakhs.
The tournament which was held from 25th October to 27th October saw participation from India and other countries. The championship comprised of ‘Team-of-Four Duplicate’, ‘The Match Point Pairs’, and ‘The Swiss Pairs’ events.
The winner details are as follows:
- Team Omega, featuring R. Krishnan, R. Raghavendra, S. Vijayaraghavan, and Asantha De Mel, claimed victory in the main Team-of-Four event, securing the prestigious HCL Rolling Trophy.
- In the Pairs event, the Mumbai-based father-son duo, Anant and Rajesh Somani, showcased remarkable skill to win the top prize.
- Sreenivas Makala and Gunaranjan Pemmaraju triumphed in the Swiss pairs competition.
This year’s championship celebrated bridge at its highest level, fostering a competitive yet supportive atmosphere and enhanced regional engagement in the sport.
