If you are an Instagram user, then you are sure to come across the “Swipe-Ups” and stickers.

On YouTube videos, there are links that the content creators will prompt you to click which takes you to another destination. And now you might be wondering, what are these things?

It’s called Affiliate marketing. To put it simply, when you purchase from a website using a trackable link or a unique code posted by the influencer, they can earn a commission from the sale that you make. Links and codes are not just mentioned for the convenience of the viewers to say further.

Outside of sponsored content, posts or ad revenue on videos, affiliate marketing helps influencers earn income. This type of marketing helps emerging influencers make money and work with sponsors as content creators.

The follower count, engagement, and the industry of their speciality are some factors that make affiliate marketing lucrative for the influencers. Other factors include the commission rates which the brands and platforms put in place.

In eight months, Tori Dunlap, a personal finance influencer, has made more than $200,000. Another influencer who specialises in skincare, Vi Lai earned more than $5,000 each month using affiliate links.

Some influencers earn a few hundred dollars here and there using affiliate marketing.

A finance influencer can make some decent income from affiliate links only. Working with apps like Robinhood or Acorns will help them reach that goal. This isn’t to say that the market is restricted to finance influencers only.

Influencers can earn commission from promoting products on social media using affiliate marketing platforms like LTK and MagicLinks as well as brands like Amazon.

Platforms such as Instagram are making their native affiliate marketing programs. It will let creators share feed posts and stories that are shoppable. It will also let them host a “shop” on their account page from which influencers can earn commission on sales.

The platform has made it easier for influencers to add links to their Instagram stories in 2021.

By doing this, they lifted the requirement that users either be verified or have a follower count of 10,000 to use this feature. In 2022, the company plans to expand to more video content affiliate tools.
