This order prohibits , alt Balaji , MX player, and Endemol Shine from displaying the series on any electronic media, social media, or OTT platform.
The Hyderabad Civil Court has issued an injunction against Ekta Kapoor’s reality show, ‘Lock Upp.’ After conducting a trial and reviewing the petitioner’s documents, the XI additional chief judge of the Hyderabad Civil Court issued the court order on April 29, 2022.
Abdul Haleem Baig, the petitioner, claims to be the sole owner of the story and script for the concept titled “The Jail.”
Previously, in the last week of February 2022, the Telangana High Court overturned the trial court’s ad-interim injunction against releasing, exhibiting, and publishing the series.
The plaintiff claimed that Pride Media, with Baig as its proprietor, owned the concept. Shantanu Ray and Sheershak Anand wrote the series, which was registered under the copyright act of 7 March 2018 and at the Film Writers Association.
Baig detailed how the show’s concept was developed and explained it in detail in his petition, including the amount of money he invested at various stages of concept development.
The court had previously recorded a video clip of the Lock Upp trailer and issued an ad-interim injunction order with an urgent notice prohibiting the show’s exhibition. Baig explained or interacted with all the respective companies and asked them to not to proceed with the show or the concept.
On the other hand they turned their backs and said that they are having all the rights to stream according to the schedule. Baig was having no choice but to go to towards the court.
Because the show is not only similar to but an exact copy of our concept, it is a total infringement of the copyright, and I have obtained a permanent injunction order. Despite the court order, I see the show airing, which is a violation of the order.
I intend to return to court; I have complete faith in the judiciary and am confident that justice will be served.” If the infringement is proven, the defendant production houses will face penalties under Sections 51 and 52 of the Copyright Act.
