Regarding the recent report by NASSCOM – National Association of Software and Services Companies there is over 5000 Internet of Things (IoT) patents that have been filed in India for the past 5 years. The president of NASSCOM, Debjani Ghosh state that emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, blockchain technologies are playing a crucial role that enables the world to be interconnected to the devices and creation of a new experience.
The percentage of IoT patents in various sectors are:
80 per cent of the IoT patents came from the healthcare and automobile industry.
70 per cent of the patent files belonged to multinational companies (MNCs). While the startups constituted 7 per cent of the patents.
95 per cent of IoT patents came from the hardware components. Electronic manufacturers constituted 60 per cent of the patents. In global companies, 70 per cent of the IoT patents belonged to Research & Development expertise.
Innovation & technology has always been leading overcome the challenges amid any crisis. The president of NASSCOM expressed that the recent innovations in IoT focusing on the healthcare and automobile industry will gain momentum in the tech-enabled world.
It is also expected to see an increase in the number of patent filings in the coming years primarily from healthcare, supply chains, 5G, and security systems. In the post COVID era, IoT innovations will increase their focus on healthcare and hygiene. The modernization of healthcare industries that includes telehealth and patient monitoring through connected devices such as connected thermometers. Healthcare sectors are given great significance as the health of an individual is a primary element.
Telehealth is integrating into the person-care post-COVID-19 challenge. From the perspective of public safety, significant IoT innovations can track the health conditions of an individual. IoT innovations also assist in the transformation of supply chain management. IoT will authenticate the location of goods at any point in time, keeps track of the speedy movement of goods, and enables verification of tracking of goods upon receipt, monitoring the storage conditions of raw materials and products. The advancements and major improvements in IoT will help the various industries to focus on their operations and ensure the desired outcomes in the future.
