National, December 21, 2024: The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI] successfully hosted the 17th IEI Industry Excellence Awards 2024 and 4th IEI Engineering Education Excellence Awards 2024 on December 19, 2024, at Novotel Hotel & Residences, Kolkata. With the theme “Engineering Innovation, Shaping India’s Future as a Global Leader,” the event stood out as a spectacular celebration of engineering talent and excellence. The awards highlighted India’s progress in sustainability, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, and educational reforms. The awards ceremony was inaugurated by Er BRV Susheel Kumar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Telangana Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. (TGMDCL), as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Tapan Misra, Founder of Sisir Radar and former Director of ISRO’s Space Applications Center, as the Guest of Honour. Their insightful addresses emphasized the pivotal role of engineering in shaping India’s industrial and academic landscape, while inspiring future innovations.

Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Er BRV Susheel Kumar remarked, “Engineering has been the backbone of India’s growth journey, and this platform celebrates the talent, innovation, and commitment of individuals and organizations driving the nation forward. By focusing on sustainability, education, and digital transformation, IEI has created a movement that will define India’s future as a global leader.”

Honouring Excellence: Award Winners

The IEI Industry Excellence Awards 2024 recognized outstanding organizations across various sectors. In the Platinum category, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bangalore, Steel Authority of India, Salem, Afcons Infrastructure Limited, Mumbai, and MECON Limited, Ranchi were honoured for their excellence in engineering manufacturing, processing, construction, and consultancy. In the Gold category, Kirloskar Brothers Limited, Pune, and WAPCOS Limited, Gurgaon, stood out for their exemplary contributions, while ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited received the Silver Award for their remarkable achievements in engineering manufacturing.

The IEI Engineering Education Excellence Awards 2024 celebrated educational institutions demonstrating leadership in innovation and academic excellence. SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu, Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, and Modi University of Science and Technology, Rajasthan, received Platinum Awards in their respective categories, including the Best Women Engineering Colleges. Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu, and Padmashri Dr. VB Kolte College of Engineering, Maharashtra, were awarded Gold, while Sona College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, and Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Andhra Pradesh, earned recognition with Silver Awards for their outstanding efforts in engineering education.

The event featured four insightful panel discussions addressing the most pressing issues in engineering and education. Topics included balancing sustainability with industrial growth, leveraging digital transformation for competitiveness, the impact of NEP 2020 on education and industry collaborations, and fostering entrepreneurship across corporates, MSMEs, and academia. Experts from leading organizations and institutions shared actionable insights, fostering a robust exchange of ideas to shape the future of engineering in India.

Dr. Ranga Reddy, Chairman of the Excellence Award Committee, stated, “These awards go beyond celebrating excellence—they foster conversations that matter. Whether it’s sustainability, digital transformation, or entrepreneurship, the event brings together the best minds to spark action and inspire future innovations.”
