Bangalore, 14th October 2022: India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), the premier industry organization representing the Semiconductor and Electronics Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector in the country, yesterday released its findings on State Preparedness and readiness for the ESDM industry. The report was launched during IESA’s annual flagship event, the Vision Summit & India Embedded Electronics Show 2022 by Dr. C N Aswath Narayan, Hon’ble Minister for Electronics, IT/BT, Skill development and livelihood
Based on the evaluation conducted for the top 20 Indian states, the report created a dispassionate assessment of how each state is now prepared for the Development of the ESDM ecosystem in these states. categorizing the states as nascent, emerging (early stage), developing (making good progress), and well-established markets for the ESDM industry. While none of the states achieved well-established status, seven states were named as developing and making good progress in creating a solid ESDM ecosystem. These states are Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. The report was prepared by using 5 anchor parameters and a total of about 135 sub-parameters under these 5 anchor parameters
IESA’s report also revealed that while the states of Bihar, Goa, and Jharkhand have a long way to go in achieving prominence with respect to the ESDM industry, states like Andhra Pradesh and Kerala have been quite aggressive in developing the sector at a rapid pace. These states hold great potential to grow into future hubs for the ESDM sector by inching towards a mature market through the development of necessary business climate and human capital, amongst others.
Commenting on the release of the report, K Krishna Moorthy, CEO, and President, IESA said, “The Government of India is poised to take the ESDM sector in the country to new heights, with its contribution expected to cross US $1 trillion to Indian economy by 2025. Our State Preparedness Report is aimed at assisting the states in India to actively contribute towards helping the country achieve this milestone. Several policies and campaigns are already in place to promote the sector, with many more to follow in the months to come. It is fortunate that the states in the country have recognized ESDM as a huge facilitator of economic development. The young population profile combined with an extensive array of policies aimed at promoting ease of doing business makes India an optimal choice for domestic and foreign investors alike, further cementing India’s position as an emerging global leader in the ESDM space. IESA will work with states to create deep-dive state-specific reports from this data with specific recommendations tailored to each state’s specific aspirations and abilities. This is not a comparative or competitive report but an assistive report”
According to the report, the ESDM attractiveness of a given state is dependent on a set of factors that offer potential investors a scientific basis to aid their investment decisions. The report will aid the stakeholders including policymakers to formulate provisions that will further bolster the growth of the ESDM sector in their respective states.
