Income Tax 2.0 portal: New features & Steps to file ITR

The new tax payment system and mobile app on its advanced e-filing website will be launched and activated on Friday, June 18, by CBDT. The new income tax portal will be released after the advance tax installment date to avoid any taxpayer burden. The mobile app will also be released following the initial launch of the portal, to enable the taxpayers to get friendly with various features & to facilitate ease of compliance for taxpayers.

Take a look at some features of the new e-filing portal :

ITR-Processing

The new portal is merged with all the processing of Income Taxes’ which will enable taxpayers to get a quick refunds. The new portal will be taxpayer-friendly and easy to use.

Pre-filled ITRs

The taxpayer will now be able to pre-fill their salary income, interest & dividends and all the capital gains will be reflected after TDS and SFT(Statement of Financial Transactions) deductions.

Multiple payment options

The new portal will also have a new online tax payment system with various options like net banking, credit card, UPI, NEFT & RTGS for easy payment of taxes.

Single dashboard Interactions

All interactions and uploads or incomplete actions will be shown on a single dashboard for follow-up actions by the taxpayer.

Free ITR preparation software

It will also have a free ITR preparation software with FAQs to help taxpayers to file the ITRs 1,4(online or offline) and ITR 2 (offline) to begin with the facility for preparations of ITR 3,5,6,7 will be made available soon.

Call Centre service

A new call center will be set up by Income Tax Department for taxpayer assistance, for prompt response to taxpayer queries is also planned & the portal will have detailed FAQs, user manuals, videos & Chatbot also.

Resolve Taxpayer’s Grievances

It will also assist the taxpayers to file Income Tax forms, submit their responses to various scrutiny appeals, and also added tax professionals.

Steps to file & submit ITR under New Income Tax e-filing portal 2.0:

For filing the ITR first one needs to download a JSON-based offline utility.

1.Login to the portal (https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal) & go to the dashboard e-file> Income Tax Returns> File Your Return.

2.Select the Assessment Year & mode of filing.

3.Select Continue if you are sure about the ITR  type or you can click on “proceed” to help find your ITR.

4.Once you have selected the particular ITR, select the status of the Assessee, the reason for filing & fill the applicable fields of the ITR and make the payment if applicable.

5.Click on the preview button and submit the return.

6.Click on proceed for verification.

7.Select the verification mode.

8.Enter EVC/OTP for e-verifying ITR or send the signed ITR 5 to CPC for verification.

Overall, the new Income-Tax filing aims to provide a more user-friendly, smarter, smoother, and seamless experience to taxpayers as it provides a wider range of services to all taxpayers under one roof
