ACT Fibernet State of Internet report highlights a consistent increase in internet consumption in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi & Chennai

National, 29th January 2024:  ACT Fibernet, one of India’s largest fiber broadband Internet Service Providers, has released its two-year State of the Internet report highlighting Internet usage and data consumption trends in India between January December 2022 and November 2023.

The findings from across 24 cities have further revealed a significant 52% increase in the consumption of the highest bandwidth. While average data used per month has increased by 25%, average downloads per month have increased by 27% in the last two years. With people returning to the office, the new prime time for internet consumption at home is 8 PM to 11 PM.

Among the prominent cities, the report also highlights intriguing insights into the evolving digital landscapes of Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi, reflecting diverse patterns of data consumption and technological adaptation.

Bengaluru: The tech-savvy landscape of Bengaluru reflects a surge in data consumption, resonating within its thriving IT ecosystem. Over the past two years, the average data used per month has increased by 23%, accompanied by a 25% rise in monthly downloads. The peak bandwidth consumption has surged by 74%, reflecting the city’s tech-savvy inclination. Notably, the highest data utilized by a single user reached a staggering 30 TB. Bengaluru’s prime time for heightened data activities spans from 7.30 PM to 11 PM.

Hyderabad: Known for its tech aspirations, Hyderabad’s ambitions in IT, e-commerce, and entertainment are powered by substantial data consumption. The city has experienced a notable 35% increase in average monthly data usage over the last two years, coupled with a 37% surge in monthly downloads. The highest bandwidth consumed escalated by 39%, with a recorded highest data usage of 32 TB. Hyderabad’s prime time for heightened data usage spans from 8 PM to 11 PM.

Chennai: Uncovering Chennai’s journey towards digital transformation, the city reflects a tech-forward mindset evident in its rising data consumption trends. Over the past two years, Chennai witnessed a 14% increase in average monthly data usage and a 15% surge in monthly downloads. The highest bandwidth consumption escalated by 50%, with the highest data usage recorded at 22 TB. Chennai’s prime time for heightened data activities spans from 7.30 PM to 11.30 PM.

Delhi: As the connectivity hub, Delhi showcases a balanced usage pattern catering to work, leisure, and connectivity needs. Over the last two years, there’s been a notable 22% increase in average monthly data usage and a 23% surge in monthly downloads. The highest bandwidth consumed has risen by 30%, with the highest recorded data usage standing at 17 TB. Delhi’s prime time for heightened data usage extends from 7.30 PM to 11.30 PM, accommodating various online activities, from e-learning to video conferencing.
