Airbnb recognises top Hosts under the age of 30 years old in India
India, 30 August 2022 – While Airbnb Hosts span the age spectrum, Airbnb is shining a light on some of its most successful, innovative and welcoming Airbnb Hosts in Asia Pacific under 30. Airbnb is recognizing 13 outstanding young Airbnb Hosts across the APAC region* with an average rating of 4.9 and over 4,300 guest check-ins collectively, including three from India – Allister, 27, Kunal, 28 and Teresa, 27.
These incredible individuals tell a story of age not being a barrier to becoming a successful Host, many with an eye toward the economic empowerment unlocked through hosting. The desire to create passive income streams was a common theme as we connected with this year’s top Hosts under 30 in the region.
“Many young people are turning to hosting on Airbnb as a way to generate additional income. We are seeing more and more young Indians discovering Airbnb and sharing about it with their families and friends. They are not only travelling with us domestically and overseas but also becoming tourism entrepreneurs by helping their families generate new streams of income through hosting,” shared Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb’s General Manager for India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
For many Airbnb Hosts in India, hosting is a way to generate additional income and for passionate Indians to share their local culture, hospitality and communities with their guests. In fact, more than half of Hosts surveyed in India are hosting on Airbnb to meet people from around the world. Almost half of Hosts want to connect with people from different countries to know about their culture and share more about the Indian culture with them. **
Kunal, 28, who hosts this cozy villa in Goa with his mother, shared that the idea of hosting his place on Airbnb emerged after his family trip to Malaysia a few years ago, when they stayed in an Airbnb. They had a wonderful time and great care was taken to make the stay comfortable. Kunal was very impressed by this experience and thought it would be wonderful to give other people the same experience at his very own place back home.
Teresa, 27, who hosts Risa Maria in Meghalaya with her brother, started hosting because they love Airbnb’s idea of living like a local and wanted to offer the same experience to the guests visiting their city.
Allister, who hosts this holiday home in Goa was looking for a secondary source of income and that’s when the idea of hosting on Airbnb kicked in. He started getting bookings in less than three days and the income generated was way more than that he had in mind. Since then he’s never looked back.
The decision to start the journey of becoming an Airbnb Host is not a small one, especially for those under 30, but these top Hosts under 30 have some advice for those considering it. Kunal shares, “For the young people looking to host, I would say to not worry about the ‘what ifs’. Hosting will definitely come with both good and challenging experiences, but the good outweigh the challenges you’ll face by miles.”
To become a successful host, Allister suggests doing up your property the way you would want it to be if you were living in it. Be very responsive to your guests and also provide local tips and recommendations for places and things they can do nearby your listing. Theresa shares that cleanliness of the listing is of utmost importance, and it is important to maintain good relations with the guests.
