Indian Railways started the development work on the new 2.05 km Pamban rail route span in Mandapam, which will associate Rameswaram with the central area in Tamil Nadu.

The Indian Railways, which is on the way to improvement, is presently moving towards exhibiting an exemplary illustration of a design wonder with the recently proposed Pamban Bridge.

Indian Railways started the development work on the new 2.05 km Pamban rail route span in Mandapam, which will associate Rameswaram with the central area in Tamil Nadu.

The new extension will assist the railroads with working trains at higher speed, convey more weight and increment the volume of traffic between Pamban and Rameswaram.

The more than two-kilometre-long scaffold, which is probably going to cost ₹250 crores, will have a 63-meter stretch, which will lift while staying lined up with the deck to permit admittance to the boats.

While the ongoing extension has the ‘Scherzer’ moving lift innovation in which the scaffold opens up evenly, to allow boats to go through, in the enhanced one, a 63-meter segment will lift upward upwards staying lined up with the deck. It will be finished utilizing sensors at each end.

Conversing with ANI, the General Manager of Southern Railway said, “The old Pamban span was appointed on February 24, 1914. Thus, just about 108 years passed, and presently the opportunity has arrived to push ahead with innovations. The assessed cost of the new scaffold is ₹250 crore and the objective is to just finish it this year.”

Giving data about this extension, the Divisional Engineer and Incharge of Pamban Bridge, Hridayesh Kumar said, “The current scaffold structure has an all-out length of 2,058 meters containing 146 ranges of steel supports. There are 145 ranges of 12.20 m and one navigational range of 61.0 m. The navigational range is otherwise called Scherzer moving lift length after the name of railroad engineer William Scherzer who imagined it.”

“The upward freedom of just 1.5 m is accessible between the elevated tide level and the lower part of the support bringing about the sprinkling of seawater on the braces. In the examination, the new extension will have 100 ranges of 18.3 m and one navigational range of 63 m. It will be 3.0 m higher than the current scaffold with navigational air leeway of 22.0m above ocean level,” he further added.

Referencing the innovation for the activity of the new scaffold for ships development, Kumar expressed, “On account of vertical lift, the full level width of 63 m will be accessible for the route. Likewise, the whole extension including the navigational range will be planned remembering the Railways plan of charge and keeping up with the speed of the trains at 80 km each hour.”
