Indri Becomes ‘The Best Whisky In The World’: Wins ‘Best in Show Double Gold’ at Whiskies of the World Awards 2023

Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 has won the ‘Best in Show’ Double Gold award at the prestigious Whiskies of the World Awards, putting Indian single malts on a new pedestal

Chennai: A proud homegrown single malt brand from the house of Piccadily Distilleries in India, Indri has earned a place among the best whiskies across the globe. Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 has been awarded the Best in Show, Double Gold at the prestigious Whiskies of the World Awards. This win is a testament to the quality and the growing popularity of Indian single malts across the globe.

One of the largest whisky tasting competitions in the world, Whiskies of the World Awards judges over 100 varieties of whiskies from across the globe every year. Following a rigorous blind tasting over several rounds across categories, a panel of some of the top tastemakers and influencers in the alco-bev industry declares one whisky as the best whisky in each class. Further to this, they then select one whisky as the Best in Show out of all the Best-in-Class whiskies. This year, Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 is proud to have claimed the coveted spot, outshining hundreds of Scotch whiskies, Bourbons, Canadian whiskies, Australian and British single malts. The well-deserved accolade shows that India has emerged as a worthy contender, and the world is awakening to the new star from India – Indri.

The evolution of Indian single malts is changing the way the world generally perceives Indian spirits. Moving away from a predominantly Scotch-loving culture, the Indian single malts are breaking barriers and building a reputation for Indian whiskies like never before. Factors such as premiumization, a growing demand for authenticity and willingness to embrace global trends while celebrating local craftsmanship have influenced the growth of the Indian whisky industry.

Speaking about the win, Siddhartha Sharma, Founder, Piccadily Distilleries said, “The perception of India is changing globally. India and Indians are breaking boundaries on all fronts be it technology, business, sport or crafted high quality premium products. India was always known for its exquisite and outstanding quality and finer things for hundreds of years and we feel that India is getting its magic back and achieving feats like Chandrayaan landing on moon to Neeraj Chopra breaking world records and numerous Indians accomplishing milestones like never before. It is an exciting time for India, and Indian whiskies are not far behind as we are playing our part in the India story. Indri’s big win at Whiskies of the World awards- being rated as the Best whisky in the world, further strengthens our vision of putting homegrown quality liquids on the world map. It is an honour to be recognized and celebrated by such a renowned platform, outshining hundreds of whiskies from across the globe.”

Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 is a peated Indian single malt made with six-row barley, distilled in traditional copper pot stills crafted in India. Carefully matured in PX Sherry Casks for a significantly long time amidst the sub-tropical climate of North India, this unique expression entices you with a whiff of smoke and awakens your senses to a myriad of flavours such as candied dried fruits, toasted nuts, subtle spices, oak, bittersweet chocolate and more.

The journey of Indri began with Indri-Trini, India’s first triple cask single malt. With a mission to put quality homegrown liquids on the world map, Piccadily Distilleries introduced the one-of-its-kind single malt two years ago. Ever since its launch in 2021, the brand has won over 14 global awards.

Indri-Trini is available across 19 states in India and 17 countries; Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 will be available in US, India and in select European countries from November onwards.
