Intel in Collaboration with Telangana Government, IIT-HYD, and PHFI Launches Applied AI Research Center

In the inauguration of  all.ai 2020 Virtual Summit, Intel announces the launch of the new Applied AI Research Center (INAI) in collaboration with the State Government of Telangana, IIT Hyderabad, and Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). The Research Center will be established in Hyderabad. INAI seeks to apply AI to Indian population-scale problems with more emphasis on healthcare and smart mobility segment challenges and possible solutions. It also accentuates on strong ecosystem collaborations.

INAI will help in establishing India’s leadership in AI by entrepreneurship and innovation, create curated datasets as a national asset, computing tools, frameworks, and infrastructure with a vision of attracting global talent for path-breaking research towards the Public Sector development. INAI brings multiple institutions together to bring innovative solutions with significant societal impact. PHSI is a founding healthcare partner, championed by Intel, empowered by the Government of Telangana, and anchored by IIT-HYD.

India is a country with a large population with its large scale challenges. Technology-led innovation becomes crucial to adopt to solve Societal challenges, especially in the critical sectors like smart mobility, future of work, and healthcare. It is the need of the time that government, industry, academics, and the public to work together and find holistic solutions for the day-to-day challenges of such a large scale population. Academia experts and computing strength from IIT-H, public health experts of PHFI, and technology leadership, architecture strength of Intel, and expertise from other domains and technology partners are coming together to drive innovation, development of entrepreneurship, creation of a job, and international collaboration.

According to Sri. KT Rama Rao, Hon’ble IT Industries, MA & UD Minister, Telangana Govt., INAI is a milestone towards digitalization. The synchronous effect from all the stakeholders of our ecosystem is imperative to have AI vision for better governance and improve quality of life. 

Nivruti Rai, Country Head, Intel India, and VP, Data Platforms Group, Intel mentions that India has an enormous opportunity to lead the world towards the democratization of AI and human-centric application of AI. Intel aspires to assist India to become synonymous with AI and endeavor to gain true potential of AI in healthcare, smart mobility, and the future of the work segment by advancement in skill training, technology, research, and innovation.

In the smart mobility area, INAI will research in road safety to reduce Road accidents and fatality using AI. In the public health region, it will focus on better prediction of non- communicable diseases and innovative solutions to expand health insurance to each individual.
