IBM Watson is IBM’s supercomputer that merges artificial intelligence and sophisticated analytical software into the question-and-answer system for optimal performance. A research team led by leading investigator David Ferucci has given IBM founder Thomas J a supercomputer developed in IBM’s Deep QA project. Watson is named after him. Watson was initially designed to answer questions about the American quiz show, Danger. In 2011, computer systems participated in shows against American game show contestants Brad Router and Ken Jennings, which won us $1,0,0,0 in first place and prize.
Designed to replicate or surpass human potential for a question-answering high-functioning human, IBM Watson enters 90 servers with a massive data store of more than 200 million pages of information, which processes against 6 million logic rules.
IBM Watson and its components
IBM Watson uses Deep QA software and Apache UEMA (unstructured information management architecture) framework. It uses Esus Linux Enterprise Server 11 to run and use Apache head-up to provide distributed computing. Watson has a Power7 processor. It has 16 terabytes of RAM and has a 3.5 GBTAP7 eight-core processor. It has the capacity to process 500 GB of information per second, which is equivalent to one lakh books.
IBM Watson’s applications for inclusive cognitive computing technology are almost limitless. Since the device handles text mining and complex analysis on largely unstructured data, it can support a search engine or specialist system that is better than any capacity that exists in the past.
Why should you use IBM Watson?
Watson uses the power of machine learning to answer questions. This allows users to learn more with fewer data. With IBM Watson, users can protect their insights as it gives them control over important things. It also provides the ability to manage ownership of their data and protect data insights and IP addresses.
By adding IBM Watson, users can be in health care, finance, education, transport or any other sector. The supercomputer has a deep understanding of every business and industry and has a broad domain knowledge that provides users with better and faster decisions. IBM Watson can help enrich various data without any additional and unnecessary integration. This allows users to access data easily from vast resources.
Watson’s technique was earlier reportedly applied to health care. IBM Watson Health is changing the way healthcare is done by meeting business and medical needs with cloud, data, analytics and AI solutions. IBM’s supercomputer brings accurate medication to cancer patients and helps researchers identify new instructions for existing drugs, so develops a new treatment for patients. IBM Watson brings confidence in decision-making to oncology and provides care to patients after understanding millions of data.
Supercomputing Race
With countries racing on top of supercomputing, the world’s top fastest supercomputers are run by China and Switzerland. On the other hand, in June 2018, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) of the Us Department of Energy revealed a new supercomputer summit. The summit reportedly has the highest performance of 200,000 trillion calculations (200 petaflops) per second. With this release, China is expected to exceed 93-petaflop Taihulite at the summit, which has topped the summit since 2016.
The summit was developed by IBM – IBM AC922 system. This includes 4,608 servers, each of which includes two 22-core IBM Power 9 processors and six Nvidia Tesla V100 graphic processing unit accelerators with Malallanox interconnection. The summit is eight times more powerful than Titan, America’s current most powerful computer, which is also in The Oral.
