KFC India announced KFConscious intending to practice sustainability and create a positive impact on the planet. As a first of its kind for the QSR industry in India, the brand launched its sustainable restaurant in T. Nagar, Chennai, thereby showing the brand’s commitment to approaching sustainably by being good stewards of the environment. This launch takes forward the brand’s ongoing efforts in the journey; another KFC outlet put up in the Yamunanagar Expressway food court is marked as energy efficient. It aims to launch 20 more restaurants by the year-end, striving to enable consumers to enjoy their KFC favourites responsibly.

The solar panels at the restaurant in Chennai will save around 18,000 units of power every year, thus reducing carbon emissions from electricity consumption.
Recycling water is a practice followed across most KFC restaurants in India; with KFConscious, 100% of the drained water from the RO is used in flushing systems in the washrooms, thus ensuring 0% water wastage at the Chennai restaurant.
Natural and LED lighting ensures that the energy is utilized efficiently. The energy management system in the kitchen helps with the optimized use of electricity. Further, the use of inverter type air conditioning saves 30% in energy consumption.
Eco-friendly materials such as sustainable laminate and local clay tiles are used for wall finishes.
Customers are motivated to adopt low-carbon behaviours like bringing their own carry bag for takeaway orders. There are a having plans to provide bicycle racks and EV charging stations. The brand tested e-cycles for food delivery at select restaurants in, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Gurgaon contributing to minimizing carbon emissions.
The efforts with KFConscious show KFC’s global commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 46% by the end of this decade. This is along with a sustainable commitment of replacing all plastic-based, consumer-facing packaging to be reusable in the next few years. With a new restaurant opening somewhere every 6 hours, the brand can be entrusted with the responsibility to grow sustainably.
