The Department of Biotechnology at KL Deemed to be University successfully conducted a two-day National Conference on “Epigenetics in Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy” recently. The event, sponsored by the Advanced Network Research Excellence Foundation (ANREF) of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India, was held at the Vaddeswaram campus.
The conference aims to investigate the rising significance of epigenetic mechanisms in cancer detection and treatment, offering an opportunity for prominent experts, researchers, and students to exchange ideas and discuss the most recent advances in this crucial field. The highlights included incisive presentations, engaging discussions, and poster sessions that focused on the intersection of epigenetics and oncology, paving the way for precision medicine in cancer therapy.
Er. Koneru Satyanarayana, Chancellor of KL Deemed to be University, commented on the occasion, saying, “ At KL Deemed to be University, we believe in research and development that contributes across diverse sectors. Our commitment goes beyond academics; it’s about serving for betterment and advancing health through impactful research. This conference on cancer epigenetics unites experts to collaborate on breakthroughs that will not only enhance cancer diagnosis and treatment but also contribute to a healthier future for all. By facilitating such initiatives, we aim to enhance meaningful research dialogues and encourage discussions to improve society and lives on a larger scale.”
The key sessions covered the topics around cancer diagnostics and prognosis, cancer epigenetics, drug discovery, and the mechanisms underlying cancer growth. The event also included an exciting poster presentation competition, in which competitors exhibited their research discoveries. The top three posters received monetary prizes, acknowledging the researchers’ unique techniques.
The conference began with an inaugural address by Dr. K.S. Jagannatha Rao, Pro Chancellor followed by keynotes from notable speakers such as Dr. G.P. Saradhi Varma, Vice Chancellor and Dr. N. Butchi Naidu, Director of KL School of Life Sciences. They highlighted epigenetics’ revolutionary potential in cancer care and its importance in producing tailored therapeutics. The conference offered participants a unique opportunity to network, interact, and learn from industry experts, promoting an environment of academic excellence and innovation.
Under the supervision of Dr. V. Praveen Kumar, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, convenor of the event Dr. M. Janaki Ramaiah, senior officials, faculty, and staff ensured the smooth conduct of the conference. The University regularly organizes such conferences to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice, ultimately contributing to the advancement of cancer detection and treatment.
