Mahindra and Mahindra announced its entry into the most action oriented segment the sports utility vehicle. M&M launched TUV300 sports utility vehicle at an introductory price of Rs.6.9 lakh (ex-Showroom, Delhi). The pricing of TUV300 is considered as very aggressive as its rivals Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano, Hyundai Creta and new Maruti S Cross is priced at more than Rs.8.5 lakh.
The company which launched the new generation Scorpio last September has launched a all new model after a gap of 12 months. TUV300 will be produced in its Chakan plant which has a capacity of 5,000 per month. The top-end variant will cost Rs.8.4 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Pawan Goenka, executive director, said, “The market size of SUVs is at 47,000 units per month and if we are able to sell 4,000-5,000 (of the TUV3OO) per month we will be able to gain a market share of eight per cent to 10 per cent.”
Mahindra & Mahindra has spent Rs 1,200 crore on developing the new TUV300 sports utility vehicle including changes made to the plant. Rs 300 crore has been pumped in by its suppliers. TUV300 has been designed in house with inputs from Italian design powerhouse Pininfarina. A big highlight of TUV300 is the automated manual transmission (AMT) which is not offered by any of its rivals.
Mahindra TUV300 has been launched with diesel engine and petrol engine would be making its debut shortly. The SUV Mahindra TUV300 is by far, the toughest looking SUV in India and does borrow its design philosophy from a tank. According to Mahindra, after all, both are designed to survive difficult situations, look as strong as they are, and give commanding visibility of the road.
