Manipal Hospitals Brings Together Transplant Warriors, Donors, and Doctors in Latest Initiative for Life-Saving Measures

Chennai, 24th April 2023: Manipal Hospitals is continuing with its initiatives aimed at raising awareness around life-saving measures during heart emergencies. This time, with the objective of saving lives, the hospitals brought together 20 Transplant Survivors and Donors, as well as Doctors to watch the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) VS Rajasthan Royals (RR) on 23rd April, Sunday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore where they created awareness on how to save lives by executing a Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) demonstration before the game.

Under the umbrella of the “Guardians of the Heart” campaign, a team of cardiologists across Bangalore Cluster, transplant donors, and recipients supported the Live CPR initiative whilst Dr. Ranjan Shetty, HOD & Consultant – Interventional Cardiology, and Dr. Mabel Vasnaik, HOD & Consultant – Emergency Medicine demonstrated CPR in front of a crowd of 40,000 spectators at the stadium. This was the first time any hospital had performed such a demonstration before any T20 cricket match. The aim was to highlight the importance of timely action during heart health emergencies and to show how anyone with the knowledge of performing CPR can save someone’s life.

This is the third initiative by Manipal Hospitals, following successful events featuring senior citizens and pregnant women in the first two matches. By inviting transplant recipients and their donors who were present to cheer for RCB, the hospital emphasized the importance of taking timely action during health emergencies. These survivors served as a reminder of the impact that taking quick and appropriate action can have in saving lives.

On this occasion, Mr. Karthik Rajgopal, COO, Manipal Hospitals said, “It is a very unique initiative where our transplant donors, recipients, and cardiologists supported the unique initiative to demonstrate CPR prior to the start of a cricket match emphasizes the importance of being ready to tackle emergency situations regardless of where we are. I feel privileged that the transplant survivors were also present throughout the time and supported the CPR demo as well.

While Manipal Hospitals is known for the best treatment care it offers to patients, we would like to go beyond our services and increase the level of awareness on CPR for the betterment of the people.”

Through the LIVE CPR demonstration, Manipal Hospitals lent greater gravitas to the whole initiative which captured the hearts of the audience.
