Mumbai, 24th April 2023: The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (E&C Engineering) at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, in collaboration with Semi-Conductor Laboratory, has launched a new course, B.Tech in Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology). As part of India’s Semiconductor Mission, this exceptional program is specially curated to support the creation and scaling up of an ecosystem for semiconductors as well as bridge the skills gap in all facets of the industry.
B.Tech Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology) is a four-year undergraduate program that provides students with an in-depth understanding of the subject matter. The course curriculum covers a wide range of topics such as digital electronics, VLSI design and testing, analog and mixed-signal circuits, and more. In addition, the course also provides training with industry standard EDA tools in the labs, specialized semiconductor device and process simulation tools for understanding device fabrication and process flow and sponsored projects, internships and research opportunities in the final semester.
Speaking of the launch, Cdr (Dr) Anil Rana, Director, MIT Manipal, said “The B.Tech in Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology) program is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills required to excel in the fast-paced and ever-changing field of electronics. Through this program, students will not only gain knowledge, but they will also gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology, allowing them to excel in their future careers.”
“Graduates of this program can also look forward to a bright future, with numerous opportunities across prominent companies. The semiconductor industry, in particular, is expected to require 20,000 qualified professionals by 2025 and our program aims to close this gap by providing students with the right competencies to work in this thriving industry. Students can take the first step towards a rewarding career in electronics engineering by enrolling in this program”, Cdr (Dr) Rana further added.
To provide students with comprehensive training, the department is fully equipped with both basic and advanced simulation tools, such as Cadence, Xilinx, Spice Simulation, FPGA kits, and COMSOL. Additionally, the department has the facilities required for basic device fabrication and characterization. Faculty members with extensive experience in VLSI design, simulation, device modelling, fabrication, and characterization are available to instruct and guide students.
Furthermore, the department has established strategic partnerships with prestigious organizations such as the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India, and Applied Materials, US. By signing MoUs with these organizations, the department is able to provide students with unparalleled opportunities for growth and development, including access to cutting-edge technology and industry best practices. As a result, students can expect to receive a comprehensive education that will prepare them for success in the field of electronics engineering.
