Meta is making changes to the way people use its virtual reality headsets without logging in with Facebook. With the launch of new Meta accounts that can be used with virtual reality headsets, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in a Facebook post on Thursday that users will no longer require a Facebook account to log in.
This will allow users more options for how they want to appear in the metaverse. You won’t need a Facebook account to log into Quest starting next month, Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post. In its place, we’re introducing new Meta accounts that you may use with our VR headsets.
This will increase everyone’s options for how they manifest themselves in the metaverse.
After receiving complaints from users who had previously accessed the headsets using separate accounts from Oculus, the virtual reality company that Meta, then known as Facebook, acquired in 2014, the social media giant reportedly announced plans to remove the Facebook login requirement last year, according to Reuters.
In a blog post, Meta explained that the new login system would allow Meta accounts to manage app purchases and device-level access while Meta Horizon profiles would represent a person’s social presence in virtual reality and be coupled with user names and avatars.
Users will also be given the choice to link their profiles in a single Meta Accounts Center, which will allow them to include their current social connections from Facebook, Instagram, or Messenger into their virtual reality experiences, according to a blog post from the business.
The virtual reality market is now dominated by Meta, according to a Bloomberg article, but rivals like Apple are predicted to increase competition.
Apple has made plans to release its headgear with realityOS as its operating system. According to a news source citing Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s device will probably function similarly to the Meta Quest Pro.
Apple’s long-rumored mixed reality headset, which is reportedly going to offer a mix of virtual and augmented reality experiences, “will likely launch in January 2023,” the news source said.
” According to Kuo, the headset is allegedly the most difficult product Apple has ever made. Its introduction would probably accelerate the market for head-mounted displays’ “rapid expansion.
” Previously, Kuo had projected that Meta, Apple’s biggest rival in the mixed reality headset market, will probably pull back once the company made an impact. In reversing a previous change that mandated Facebook accounts from the company’s primary Facebook app on the devices while maintaining linkages to social networks there, Meta Platforms Inc. is changing how users log onto its virtual reality headsets.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of the organization’s new “Meta accounts” in a Facebook post on Thursday.
Following complaints from consumers who had previously accessed the headsets via separate accounts from Oculus, the virtual reality firm that Meta, then known as Facebook, acquired in 2014, the social media giant revealed intentions to remove the Facebook login requirement last year.
