The Murugappa Group’s TI Cycles of India (TII) announced today that the Montra brand will spearhead its electric vehicle (EV) operations. Montra, a TII-owned trademark, has long been associated with achievement, strength, bravery, and a can-do attitude.
Established in 1949 by the Murugappa Group in alliance with Tube Investments (UK), TI Cycles is the first bicycle company in India to change the cycle retail landscape, both in urban and rural areas.
Today, the company has transitioned from being just a bicycle manufacturer to becoming an industry expert in mobility and well-being solutions.
Well known for its flagship bicycle brands – BSA, Hercules, Montra and Mach City, TI Cycles has a series of firsts to its credit – the first MTB, the first geared bike, the first Shox model, the first girls’ bike, the first kids’ bike, the first light roadster, and the first carbon frame bike.
The brand is evolving in tandem with the quickly changing mobility landscape while maintaining its core values.
Montra, one of India’s prime brand for performance bicycles have always come out with new models which have gone on to stay in the market for years with new modification every year. One such model is the 2017-launched Montra Downtown hybrid bicycle.
Montra will first enter the EV market in three segments: last-mile commute, last-mile delivery, and personal mobility. TII’s initial effort under last mile commuting will be 3-wheel electric automobiles, which are expected to be launched in Q1 of FY22-23.3W electric freight vehicles will be launch in the last mile delivery area.
In the personal mobility segment, TII has already launched E-Bicycles. TII intends to improve people’s quality of life through eco-friendly mobility solutions by offering a selection of best-in-class EVs.
“We have been a vital part of the mobility industry through our bicycle, automotive body/components, and manufacturing companies,” stated Mr. Vellayan Subbiah, MD, Tube Investments of India, in response to the announcement.
Our entry into the electric vehicle market is a step forward in keeping with our long-term goal of being an integral element of the electric mobility ecosystem and revolutionising the automotive industry through product and ecosystem development. The Montra logo was created to represent our brand value and long-term goals.
By inventing innovative, best-in-class mobility solutions that fuel progress, the brand hopes to inspire the dreams and goals of a whole new generation. An eagle inspired the new logo, which represents rising ambition, vision, bravery, agility, efficiency, and perseverance in pursuing glory.
